Starting with the grip, stance, and posture-which are the three most important parts of the golf swing. Next we will focus on the swing plane. The swing plane plays a big part in determining the flight of the golf ball. Finally, we shorten the golf swing to 80% to add more control. Most people believe that shortening the golf swing cuts down on distance, this is incorrect. The power in the golf swing comes from the hips / lower body, and building “lag” through the impact zone. Learning this golf swing will result in more accurate shots without sacrificing distance, and a golf swing that can be easily repeated.

Golf Swing – Impact Zone

Here is a great video that I made about a month ago that provides information on what the hands should be doing at impact, and the correct way to follow through the golf shot. Most golfers spend all their time working on what the golf club should be doing on the take away, and where the golf club is at the top of the backswing. These are definitely very important to work on, but I believe that the impact zone, and the follow through are overlooked when it comes to teaching the game of golf. I am not saying that the golf swing follow through is more important, I am saying golfers should spend time practicing the impact zone on up to the finish of the golf swing.

The most common mistake that golfers make at the impact zone is when their RIGHT hand gets quick, or fires through to fast. (you will see this in the video) This results in the LEFT wrist “cupping” and leads to inaccurate golf shots.

While you are out on the driving range hitting golf balls remember to work on this drill, this will lead to more distance because you will be compressing the golf ball better. This will also lead to more accurate golf shots because your LEFT wrist will not break down and cause inaccurate golf shots.

The Secret Of Golf 2

If you are struggling with any of these nine ball flights that I recently posted, here is a simple way that you can fix them. An adjustment in your swing plane and getting the timing down with your hands will fix any of these ball flights. I shouldnt say fix, because some of us are choosing to hit a draw, fade, or even straight, we just miss hit it and it ends up being a snap hook.

Lets take my video that I posted about a week ago that has to do with the swing plane. This is a perfect way to check your own swing plane. If you are having a problem with slicing the golf ball. Set a golf club on the ground, set up to it like I do in this video, please do not hit the golf  shaft. Once you have done this start by taking the golf club back to the 9 o’clock position, or where the golf club is parallel to the ground. You can check your swing plane right here. Make sure that the golf club that you are swinging is parallel to the one that is on the ground. Obviously it is going to be in closer to your body, but it should not be angled to the left of the golf club on the ground or to the right, that would be off plane already. Then take your hands to where you bend your wrists, check yourself again and make sure that the butt of the golf club is pointing at the golf club we have set on the ground. The top of the backswing is the tough one to check, but is possible to check it by mirror.

The second way to correct any of these ball flights is to get the timing down with the wrists, or the right hand rotating over the left at the impact zone. Every golf shot that is hit comes down to getting the timing right with your hands. A good drill for this is to practice the 9 o’clock / 3 o’clock drill. This is where you take the golf club back to where it is parallel to the one on the ground and your hands are extended away from your body. Then you follow through the impact zone to where the golf club is parallel to the golf club on the ground and the hands are extended away from the body. This is a great drill for getting the timing down of your hands when they are coming through the impact zone.

The swing plane and the timing of the hands are the major role in the flight path of the golf ball. Get your swing plane correct and get the timing of your hands at the impact zone and you will hit more accurate golf shots. I have added a link to two videos, one is on how to Stop Hooking The Golf Ball, and the other is on how to Stop Slicing The Golf Ball.
